As part of launching the revised curriculum in the state Anandan adapted Alappuzha, one of the districts in Kerala for close intervention on behalf of SSA, Kerala. The idea was to ensure on-site support to teachers and address the issues that emerge while teaching. Periodical review of the progress of the intervention was conducted. As the culmination of the programme English Fest was conducted at the BRC level and the district level to show-case the learning achievement of the learners. Over a period of 3 months students of Alappuzha produced about 25,00,000 English magazines that contained discourses that emerged as part of their classroom learning.
In the following year, the Alappuzha model was taken up by other districts as well under different names. In collaboration with RIESI, Bengaluru, Anandan conducted a series of workshops at RIESI campus for the English teachers of Kerala. RIESI conducted a study on the impact of the revised curriculum and textbooks in terms of their proficiency development in English. The study revealed that there was considerable improvement in the performance of the students in those classes where the process as envisaged in the curriculum was followed.
