DOP was introduced in classes 6 and 7 of the state English textbooks even before the total revision of the curriculum, which took place in the year 2007. This was when a partial revision of the English textbooks was initiated by SCERT as an extension of the DPEP interventions in classes 1 to 4. Only some of the components of SLAP were introduced in class 5. The total shift from fragmentary to holistic approach was made possible in the designing of the textbooks in class 7. Each unit in the textbook was developed on a story that was presented to the learners in the form of reading passages and aural texts. The texts meant for listening were given in the teacher’s handbook only.
The change in the textbook had its impact more in schools where SLAP had been introduced during DPEP years.
